Scouts will stay in Korea and will carry the spirit of this Jamboree!!!!!
We will Overcome this Challenge as A Scout Said By Ahmad Alhendawi, Secretary General of World Organization Of Scout Movement.
On that note While all events come with their fair share of challenges, this event came with many extraordinary ones. It is the first time in over 100 years history of World Scout Jamborees to face such compounded challenges, from untimely floods to an unprecedented heatwave and now a typhoon!
Despite a bumpy start with organizational challenges of services and facilities, the Jamboree was starting to get into full swing and encompass the true spirit and nature of Scouting. It’s disappointing that these extreme weather events are impacting this unique gathering of 158 nations coming together to connect, learn new skills, and experience different cultures.
Putting the health and safety of all our participants first, we took the decision to relocate young people and volunteers to other locations. This is not an easy task to move over 40’000 people in one day. But if anyone can do, it’s Scouts!
The biggest takeaway is the true resilience of Scouts throughout all the challenges of the past week. This Jamboree is – probably more than any other before – about the persistence, creativity and resilience of young people in the face of adversity.
We will overcome this challenge as we overcame other challenges. Scouts will stay in Korea and will carry the spirit of this Jamboree with the aim of reuniting for a closing event that brings us all together before departing. Keep it up, Scouts!
