Umar Muhammad, a dedicated leader and seasoned professional, has recently been appointed as the Chief Commissioner of The Scout Association of Nigeria. With a wealth of experience in both the Scouting movement and professional sectors, he brings a blend of leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to youth development.
Born and raised in Gusau, Zamfara State, Umar holds an impressive academic background. He earned his BSc. in Mathematics from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. His pursuit of knowledge led him to acquire multiple advanced degrees, including an MSc. in Mathematics from the University of Ilorin, an MSc. in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, and an MBA from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. He is currently working towards completing his PhD in Mathematics, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning and the pursuit of excellence.
Professionally, Umar serves as the Treasury Manager at the Central Bank of Nigeria, where his strong mathematical and managerial skills are critical in overseeing financial operations. His dedication to service extends beyond his professional career into his passionate involvement in Scouting, which has spanned many years and multiple leadership roles.
Umar’s Scouting journey began in Gusau, where he served as the Troop Leader of Sabon Fegi Troop and Group Leader of Sabon Fegi Group. His leadership was further recognized internationally when he became the Assistant Troop Leader of the 31st Pentland Scout Troop in Juniper Green, Edinburgh, UK.
His return to Nigeria saw him rise through the ranks, taking on responsibilities as the District Commissioner of Gusau and subsequently as the Assistant Training Commissioner for Zamfara State Scout Council. His deep commitment to youth training and development earned him the position of Training Commissioner for Zamfara State, where he has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of Scouts.
In addition to his roles within Scouting, Umar also serves as a Board Member of the Scout Association of Nigeria (TSAN), further demonstrating his leadership and commitment to the Scouting movement at a national level.
As the new Chief Commissioner of The Scout Association of Nigeria, Umar Muhammad’s vision is focused on fostering leadership, discipline, and community service among young people across the country. He aims to strengthen the values of Scouting, ensure the growth of the movement, and empower youth to be active, responsible citizens.
Umar is married and blessed with children, and he continues to be a role model in both his personal and professional life. His contributions to Scouting and society at large underscore his dedication to the principles of service, leadership, and development.
