The reelected Chief Commissioner and some members of his team on Tuesday Sept 14th 2021 paid a courtesy call to The Elephant of Africa Chief Dr. G. A. Aletor at his residence in Benin City.
Welcoming the Guests, The Elephant asked that his amiable wife; Dr Mrs Aletor join him to welcome the new Chief Scout Commissioner of Nigeria to his humble abode.
He thanked the delegation for coming to see him. Stating that he has been putting on the Scout Uniform for 72 years now and still counting (which he said is twice the years Baden Powell spent on earth doing scouting).
He congratulated the Chief Commissioner for his reelection and called for peace within the rank and file of all. Stating that the inclusion of all should be key aim of the new administration.
After which he made an official address in which in which he admonished and advised the CC on the way forward.
1. First he advised that the CC must device new means of Funding the NSO.
2. He further added that the Investiture of Mr. President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should be the next project for the CC.
3. He advised on the acquiring of a National Secretariat in Abuja and National Scout Centre.
4. He added that he is looking forward to a National Jamboree in Nigeria.
5. Then he hopes that the new Executive should strive to produce a sound constitutions that is GSAT compliance.
Added that he has refused to talk much on GSAT issues because the constitution has not yet been set to accommodate it.
He therefore enjoined that the new Executive to hasten up to roll out a new constitution.
6. He then advised that state scout structures should be strengthened at all cost.
He ended by stating regrettably that he was not invited to such an all important national meeting even when it happened in his domain.
Responding, the Chief Commissioner thanked him for the Warm reception.
He defended the non invitation to him by the LOC and the National Planning Committee on the grounds that they the LOC were giving a free hand to decide their duty and that to avoid non interference in their duty, he didn’t start suggesting to him who to invite or not, he however said that it was a serious omission on the part of the LOC for not inviting him to be present.
He apologized on behalf of the NSO for such an erroneous oversight.
He added that it was the reason he stayed behind to make sure he sees Dr. Aletor before leaving Edo State.
Continuing, the CC outlined that plans are already in place for the establishment of a One Stop Scout Centre in Abuja which will be the best Scout Community in the whole of Africa.
On the issue of Investing Mr. President, the Chief Commissioner noted that with the composition of the present Board, and that with their joint efforts, the investiture of Mr. President could be achieved before in the shortest possible time.
The CC noted that all other suggestions of Dr Aletor are very much in the right and of necessity to be overlooked assuring that as soon they set up all will be adequately looked into and implemented.
There was group photograph for posterity as Dr Aletor presented a gift to the Chief Commissioner Hon Dave Padopas-Awunah.
Praying for his success and bidding him safe trip back to his base.
