The Oluwo Story Begins (Part 2)

The Never-Say-Die Scoutmaster

A Life of Service, Sacrifice & Scouting Spirit

As part of an ongoing effort to preserve the legacy of legendary Scouts in Nigeria, this post highlights the remarkable story of Chief Ige Adeniji Oluwo, a man whose name is woven into the very fabric of Nigerian Scouting history.

Scouter Oluwo began his journey in 1955 with the 9th Lagos Island Troop at Christian Primary School, Lagos. He later attended CMS Grammar School (1961–1965), becoming Troop Leader (1961–1966), and later, Scout Master in 1967.

From the early years, his service and sacrifices went far beyond mere titles:

✅ Author of “AND ADVANCED SCOUTING” an educational contribution to the movement.

✅ Produced neckties and uniforms for Scout troops going to national and international jamborees free of charge.

✅ As Scout Shop Commissioner for Ogun State, he served with distinction while also working as Manager of UBA, Abeokuta Branch.

✅ Purchased a Peugeot 504 Saloon car for Scouting activities from his personal funds.

✅ Represented Nigeria internationally in the UK and USA (1963), and South Korea (1991).

✅ Executive Member of the National Scout Shop until 2012.

One of the most notable sacrifices:

🎖️ In 1987, despite his busy schedule, he donated five sewing machines to the Boy Scouts of Nigeria to support uniform production.

This act was officially acknowledged in a letter from the Scoutshop Sub-Committee, dated 3rd August, 1987, signed by Otunba C.A. Tugbobo.

Even though the pressure of your duties has prevented you from attending meetings… your keen interest… has been amply demonstrated by this gift. Scoutshop Sub-Committee Letter, 1987

Oluwo also personally designed and produced 1,000 Nigerian-made Scout belts, spending ₦150,000 of his own funds a contribution that has never been repaid to date.

Still, he never complains.

Scouting is not just what I joined. It’s what I became. Chief Ige Adeniji Oluwo

His unwavering passion for Scouting even in his current state of paralysis shows us what it means to truly “never say die.
