ROVER SCOUTS IN MALAYSIA SUPPORT LOCAL AUTHORITIES IN RESCUE EFFORTS AFTER SEVERE RAIN AND FLOODS
As heavy rains continued with rising sea level and causing water to be released into the rivers, Rover Scouts supported local authorities in helping flood victims live at temporary settlements in Kuching, Sarawak.
Severe flooding went on for two weeks and Rover Scouts, together with adult leaders, served as back-up to local authorities who were exhausted and running low with energy due to several days of rescuing people.
At the early dawn of 14 January, Scouts arrived at the community council hall and were divided into groups. Some were sent to the worst affected places, especially those who are skilled and trained in rescuing. Others stayed at different flood relief centres to help in registration, distribution of drinking water, food, and medicine. They also ensured that social distancing was maintained among the flood victims.
