NEW YEAR 2021 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE NATIONAL SCOUT BOARD OF THE SCOUT ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA AND THE CHIEF COMMISSIONER OF SCOUTS OF NIGERIA

Dear Scouts ,

SPECIAL NEW YEAR 2021 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE NATIONAL SCOUT BOARD OF THE SCOUT ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA AND THE CHIEF COMMISSIONER OF SCOUTS OF NIGERIA

.

It is with great joy and gratitude to the Almighty God that we write on behalf of The National Scout Board of The Scout Association and the entire Management Team of The Scout Association of Nigeria.

We wish to express our profound New Year greetings to the entire Nigerian Scouts, Scout Leaders, our governments and revered sponsors and worthy parents of our numerous scouts across our dear country, Nigeria.

We wish you all a very Prosperous and Triumphant entry into the New Year 2021 and pray that the year will grant our heart desires in our various areas of life.

As we look forward to overcoming Covid-19 and the emerging New Wave Covid-19 which has put the world under threat, we wish to use this medium to request scouts and the public at large to adhere strictly to all Covid-19 protocols in everything we do and wherever we may go.

Much as we are envisaging the Covid-19 draw-back, we intend to ensure that the following is achieved in this coming year of promise, viz.

  1. We intend to rejig the Training/Scout Development faculty.

Modalities are in place to convene a Trainers Conference by end of January 2021 in Benin which will put our trainers in the right position of commencing training in earnest by February 2021.

2. Plans to reintroduce The ID Card scheme which will hopefully come into force and implementation from 2021. The commencement shall be with 12 pilot states across the zones.

3. We have consolidated on efforts to improve on our already redesigned uniforms, badges and other apparels to meet the expected high quality at minimal cost for Scouts.

4. We have geared up efforts to meet with the leadership of the country to address issues of zero-subventions. In the same light, international organizations already working in unism with scouts have been approached and efforts shall be concretized by first quarter of 2021 to secure support and funding for our NSO.

5. We are calling for Compulsory State Scout Rallies/Camps which should hold by first quarter of 2021. These rallies will precede The Nigeria National Scout Rally/Camp 2021 in Abuja by second quarter of 2021.

6. We shall initiate a National Scout Awards Event to be held in Abuja at the close of the proposed National Scout Rally/Camp. Committees for these events will be inaugurated by second week of January 2021.

7. We call on all State Scout Councils to meet in January for their General Assembly which must have national participation to enable the NSO have a grasp of the happenings at the state leaderships.

8. We have proposed February 2021 for our General Assembly which will hopefully run at par with the proposed Trainers Conference in Benin.

9. We are glad to inform you that the perceived acrimonies between the Board and Executive has been resolved and efforts have been intensified in having the best working relationship between the two organs.

10. We appeal to all State Councils that are in any form of crisis not known to the national leadership to kindly write to the office of The Chief Commissioner through the National Executive Commissioner for the required attention. In the same vein, all state councils enmeshed in any form of crisis have the whole of January 2021 to address their differences and seek ways out of the issues. The National Headquarters has put machineries in place aimed at amicably resolving all arguments amongst leaders in such states.

In view of the above, we are praying for a successful New Year ahead while soliciting for the cooperation of all to rebuild and re-strategize our NSO to make it take its premier position in Africa and the World Scout Body.

Thank you and God bless you and your family.

Once again, we wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Dr Gambo Ado Muhammed

Chairperson, National Scout Board.

Hon. Dave Padopads-Awunah, Chief Commissioner, The Scout Association of Nigeria.
