INDEPENDENCE MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF COMMISSIONER/CEO OF THE SCOUT ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, HON DAVE
PADOPAS-AWUNAH, LT,DCC
ON THE OCCASION OF THE 62ND INDEPENDENCE OF NIGERIA. 1ST OCTOBER 2022.
My dear brothers and sisters scouts, fellow compatriots,
We are once again celebrating the independence of our beloved country Nigeria, marking the 62ND existence of The
Federal Republic of Nigeria as an independent and indivisible nation.
The Scout Association of Nigeria hereby congratulates President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, all tiers and arms of
government and the good people of Nigeria on this historic moment of our nation.
Scouts of Nigeria have taken the initiative to continue to participate actively in nation building through our series of
interventions in national crisis affecting our young persons.
From Drug Abuse to Terrorism, Trafficking of persons and vital body organs, prostitution, fraud, robbery, kidnapping, we have embarked on campaigns with the ambition of affecting our young people through a well orchestrated and magnetic peer influence mechanism that will come with a significant growth in the population of scouts in Nigeria.
Weeks before now, we were able to break the jinx by the election of Barrister Chidi Joseph Ihemedu
as a member at the just concluded Africa Scout Conference.
Nigeria recorded an unprecedented participation at the event.
The 25th edition of the World Scout Jamboree will take place from 1st to 12th August, 2023, in SaeManGeum, Jeollabuk-
do, Republic of Korea. With the theme “Draw your Dream”, representing our willingness to accept young people’s ideas and opinions, and create an opportunity for them to make their Jamboree dreams come true.
“Draw your Dream!” expresses the desire for members of the Scout Movement to transform the 25th World Scout Jamboree into their own festival and grow their dreams through the event. Our parents, governments and other supporters are enjoined to avail our young people this lifelong rare opportunity of interacting with their peers across the globe.
Preparations are in top gear for a hitch-free outing and interested participants should get in touch with their various state scout councils for necessary participatory arrangements.
This month October, Scouts world over will be participating in the Largest Online Scout Jamboree; The Jamboree On The
The team put together to coordinate this event are working hard for an all successful outing.
As we call on Scouts to ensure full participation at this event, we also call on parents and our supporters to support their wards and the overall event with the required tools.
Our teeming population of scouts in Nigeria are encouraged to not only continue to do the expected scouting but also encourage and promote the participation of more young people in the nooks and crannies of our various communities.
Our leadership will continue to provide the required training for the development of scouts.
While thanking our various stakeholders and support institutions for their unique roles being played in the promotion of scouting, we wish to request for continual support from all stakeholders for the advancement of scouting in Nigeria.
