“Lagos State Scout Council to Honour Sen. Bode Olajumoke with Campfire Reception at 80”

LAGOS STATE SCOUT COUNCIL TO HONOUR SEN. BODE OLAJUMOKE AT 80


Moloney ,Lagos

The Lagos State Scout Council will hold a special camp fire reception and night of tributes in honour of Senator Bode Olajumoke in Ikoyi, on 30th June 2024 at 4pm.The Scout leader who turns 80 on 1st July ,2024 is a Commissioner for Special Scouts in Lagos and a former Vice Chairperson of the National Scout Board in the Scout Association of Nigeria.

Prominent dignitaries and Lagosians from all walks of life are expected to attend the event at the Ikoyi residence of the statesman. With over six decades of active Scouting, Olajumoke is one of the oldest living ‘Boy Scouts’, sharing generational ties with notable figures such as Yakubu Gowon, President Biden , Olusegun Obasanjo, and Muhammad Buhari, who also joined Scouting in their youth.

Olajumoke began his Scouting journey in 1958 at the age of 14 at Fiditi Grammar School in Oyo State, where he completed his secondary education. He has remained steadfast in his commitment to the principles and values of the Movement, with a particular focus on empowering Scouts with special needs through various humanitarian initiatives.

Speaking during the planning committee meeting for the event. The State Scout Commissioner,

Alahji Yemi Adebeshin attributed the honour to the Octogenarian’s sacrifices to scouting and humanitarian cause. He described Olajumoke as a transformational leader who has stopped at nothing to ensure that the values and vision of the Movement remain viable

Scouting is the largest educational youth movement in the World enabling over 60 million young people to contribute to their communities and the world based on shared values.

The purpose of Scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual development of young people so that they take a constructive place in society as responsible citizens, and as members of their local, national and international communities.

Raji Bomodeoku, secretary to the planning team, added that the event was planned to celebrate an old wolf, a rare gem, and a quintessential public servant. Bomodeoku praised Olajumoke as a humanitarian par excellence and a man who embodies integrity, honour, discipline, service, and character. The event will be hosted at Parkview Estate, off Alexander Road, Ikoyi whose management has expressed their congratulations to Senator Olajumoke and the Lagos State Scout Council. The Estate’s readiness to host the event was confirmed in a letter signed by Estate Chairman, Chief K.E. Kartey.

The committee which is composed of five members namely:

Alahji Yemi Adebeshin – Chairman
Raji Bomodeoku – Secretary
Geoffrey Kenneth
Shomefun Ezekiel and
Idowu Samson has announced readiness to hold the event which is expected to attract about 200 participants.
