This year’s International Volunteer Day comes at an exceptional moment.

We’re living

through an extraordinary wave of challenges, uncertainty and change, but through it all

volunteers like you have met these obstacles with incredible strength and resilience.

We often say that a “Scout is always resourceful” and across the globe we’ve witnessed your

leadership, creativity and remarkable efforts which have ensured that millions of young

people continue to have incredible opportunities to experience the fun, friendship and unity

of Scouting in these testing times.

Among the many achievements in 2020, as volunteers you’ve contributed your time, energy

and passion to:

• Keep Scouting happening by coming up with new, innovative and safe ways to engage

young people in the Scout programme at home and online.

• Respond through COVID-19 community service initiatives in your communities during

the pandemic, from delivering groceries and medication to installing hand-washing

stations and running COVID-19 awareness campaigns.

• Connect millions of Scouts together through the Special Edition of Jamboree on the

Internet (JOTI) in April, enabling young people to learn about mental health, digital

citizenship and humanitarian action, and the regular edition of the Jamboree on the

Air – Jamboree on the Internet (JOTA-JOTI) in October.

• Deliver WOSM’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Plan to provide services and support

to our membership of 171 National Scout Organizations through events such as the

World Scout Academy and the many webinars organised by our Regions too.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for going above and beyond to support the mission

of Scouting, and for being a true inspiration to us all. Your commitment has shown us that

we’re stronger when we all come together as a global Movement.

As we look ahead to 2021, #TogetherWeCan continue to grow our Scouting family, and give

even more young people the opportunities they need and deserve to get involved in

Scouting’s life-changing educational experience! Together, with you, we can do it.
